The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America believes, teaches and confesses the Triune God, three unique persons, equal and eternal, yet One God.
We believe in the Father, the Almighty, Creator of all that exists;
We believe in the Son, the living Word of God, Who assumed our flesh to suffer and die for the sins of all humanity, and to rise to life again in the ultimate victory over sin, death and the devil, that we may be righteous in God’s sight.
We believe in Holy Spirit, the Comforter, Who calls us by the gospel and creates faith through God's Word and Sacraments.
We accept the scriptural teachings that shaped the Evangelical Reformation of the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
The teachings of the Evangelical Reformation can be summarized as: sola gratia, grace alone; sola fide, faith alone; and sola scriptura, scripture alone.
God reveals the law and the gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. The holy scriptures are the only rule and norm for Christian faith and teaching.
The faith of the holy scriptures is summarized in the , the Nicene Creed, the Apostles’ Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. The Book of Concord is the Confession of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Grace alone God loves all the people of the world, even though their lives are compromised by sin, often rebel, and don’t deserve God's mercy and grace. Yet, God sent the Son, Jesus, to suffer and die to save the ungodly from sin, death and the devil.
Faith alone By His suffering and death as the substitute for all people of all time, Jesus purchased and won forgiveness and eternal life for all who receive God’s gift of mercy and grace. God’s own life-giving Spirit creates faith in everyone who hears the good news of Jesus life, suffering, death and resurrection, and believes it.
Scripture alone The holy scriptures of the old and new testaments, as a whole and in all its parts, is God's inspired written word, through which God reveals the law and the gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. The holy scriptures are the only rule and norm for Christian faith and teaching.
